The vineyards

Bodegas Castaño owns nearly 600 hectares of vineyards in different estates spread in D.O. Yecla. The main plots are:

LAS GRUESAS

160 ha in the northern area of Yecla. Its limestone soils result ideal for Monastrell and Garnacha Tintorera, the main varieties planted in this land. There is also Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Garnacha Tinta.

EL ESPINAL

88 ha in the south-eastern area of Yecla. The main soil component  is clay and the varieties planted here are Monastrell, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Macabeo, Chardonnay and Tempranillo. It is in this estate where we have our experimental vineyard. In accordance to the Castaño family’s innovating and experimenting spirit, there are 16 varieties from different latitudes and origins under permanent control and subsequent empirical vinification for researching purposes. 

POZUELO

141 ha of limestone in the North-West of Yecla which are  planted with Monastrell, Garnacha Tintorera, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Macabeo and Tempranillo. 

ARABÍ

25 ha in the North of Yecla, down the slopes of Mount Arabí. A very stony land where only Monastrell bush vines are planted.

CASA MARTA

9 ha in the North of Yecla, down the slopes of Mount Arabí. A very stony land where only Monastrell bush vines are planted.

HOYA MUÑOZ

2 ha in the North of Yecla, down the slopes of Mount Arabí. A very stony land where only Monastrell bush vines are planted.

LAS GATERAS

36 ha of limestone in the North-West of Yecla which are  planted with Monastrell, Garnacha Tintorera and Syrah.

CASA IGARZA

14 ha of limestone in the North-West of Yecla. The varieties planted here are Macabeo and Moscatel.
